Church leaders are invited to discuss emergency preparedne­ss at “Coffee in the Bunker” gathering.

Jesus House, a local nonprofit organizati­on dedicated to helping homeless adults overcome mental illness and addiction, will celebrate its 44th anniversar­y with a dinner and silent auction set for 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 21 at Coles Garden, 1415 NE 63.

Two prominent individual­s in the Oklahoma City metro community and an Oklahoma City church will each be recognized with a Be the Light Award. The award is bestowed on those in the faith, business, education, government or civic realms who help deliver light to people living in darkness.

Be the Light Award recipients include: All Souls’ Episcopal Church, represente­d by Tom Parrish; Charlotte Lankard, marriage and family therapist, nonprofit organizati­on founder, columnist and author; and Frank W. Merrick, president of Foundation Management Inc., vice president of the Merrick Foundation, president of Ward S. Merrick Inc. and a community volunteer.

Meanwhile, Barbara Butterfiel­d and Charles Davis each will receive a Jim Edwards Volunteer Award. Event sponsors include Dale and Beth Matherly, Matherly Mechanical, UBuildIt and the Chickasaw Nation.
