Six still on loose in Beckham County manhunt

-

Authorities still are looking for six people Monday in an area of Beckham County near Elk City after a pursuit that started last week in Texas and ended in Beckham County, the sheriff’s office reported.

Two of the people have been caught. A man was arrested Friday and another man was arrested Thursday. Both men are from Mexico, the sheriff’s office reports.

Authorities think at least three people, and possibly all six of the people at large, could be in an area from Interstate 40 south to State Highway 152, between State Highway 6 and State Highway 34.

Beckham County Sheriff Derek Manning reported three people were moving in a group headed south from the Elk Lake area.

The people sought are Hispanic men and one Hispanic woman, Manning reports. Early Thursday, a deputy in Wheeler County, Texas, tried to stop a speeding car. The car sped off, and the deputy pursued the car east on Interstate 40. About 3:45 a.m. the car went over stop sticks just southwest of Elk City and eight people got out and ran into a wooded area, Manning said.

Thursday afternoon, a 33-year-old Hispanic man was arrested on the south side of Elk City after he was spotted by a truck driver who called the sheriff’s office.

One of the men still at large may be wearing black pants, a red shirt, tennis shoes, and a cap that he wears backward. One person wore a plaid or flannel shirt and jeans.
