Three people die in state roadway accidents over weekend

Three people have died in state accidents, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Michael J. Burton, 36, of Hugo

Burton was killed Sunday in a crash in Choctaw County, the patrol reported.

Burton died at the scene about 9:50 p.m. about 11.5 miles southwest of Hugo on State Highway 109W.

Burton was driving a pickup east on SH 109W when he drove off the roadway and the pickup rolled. He was partly thrown from the pickup. He did not wear a seat belt.

Leonard Jackson, 33, of Glenpool

Jackson was walking east Sunday on State Highway 63 in a lane of traffic when a vehicle struck him. Jackson died at the scene about 10:30 p.m. just east of SE 104 Avenue in Latimer County, the patrol reported.

Jackson was struck by a car driven by Zachery Doyle, 32, of Wister. Doyle wore a seat belt and was not injured. His three passengers, Falisha Doyle, 28, of Wister, and two boys, ages 7 and 5, both of Wister, also were not injured. They also wore seat belts.

Jamie Podowick, 42, of Woodward

Podowick, a pedestrian, died Saturday night when a pickup struck him on U.S. 270, the patrol reported.

Podowick died about 10:25 p.m. when he was struck by a pickup driven south by Jody Weir, 38, of Sharon. Weir was not injured. Weir wore a seat belt. Podowick was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, the patrol reports.

The patrol reports Weir was trying to get something from the passenger seat when he hit Podowick.
