No end to the madness
I thought someone in the Legislature would step up and assume leadership as the members floundered uselessly through the last session. That didn’t happen. Now a special session continues the failure to develop a budget for the state. Not one Republican or Democrat has the courage to defy party strategy to solve the problems that are threatening to destroy our school systems, prison system and mental health treatment system.
Republicans apparently believe their promises to cut taxes are more important than creating a workable budget. Democrats are content to sit by waiting for the Republicans to fail so they can grab the next election. Is there not one statesman who is willing to work to make Oklahoma a better place to live?
The people of Oklahoma want our schools to be effective more than they want a few cents cut from their taxes. Prisons are crowded and underfunded. Now we’re told that services to people with mental illnesses will be cut starting next month. Where does this madness stop?
Each member of this Legislature should be fired at the end of the special session, special elections should be held to replace them, and party loyalty should be denounced by all the people in the state. I want to see a legislator who loves Oklahoma more than his or her job.
