Kids write the darndest things
DEAR MELBA: I would like to share a witty poem written by our 12-year-old neighbor, Emmalyn Logan. She said it would be OK if you want to publish it.
WORD PLAY
With only one coat of paint, does a house get cold?
And, with a duck’s bill, can something be sold?
Does the head of a nail get a bruise when it’s hit?
Can the eye of a needle see one little bit?
Do the feet on a yardstick ever walk?
Does the mouth of a cave ever talk?
Does the bed of a river have any sheets?
Can an ear of corn hear you speak?
Does an elephant’s trunk ever go on a trip?
Does the jacket of a book have a zipper that zips?
Does a heel of bread have a foot on it?
Has anyone ever fallen into a peach pit?
Can the keys of a piano unlock any doors?
Does anyone know what a tree’s trunk is used for?
Can your finger wear an onion ring?
Can the nose of a plane smell anything?
Could Orion’s belt fit around your waist?
Does a head of lettuce have a face?
Could a blade of grass work as a knife?
Answering these questions could take your whole life!
