LANGSTON — Oklahoma State administrators didn’t waste any time in giving football coach Mike Gundy’s salary a bump.

Three days after Gundy’s flirtations with Tennessee about its head coaching vacancy, OSU’s board of regents approved an addendum to Gundy’s contract that will increase his salary to $5 million for the 2018 season.

Media reports of Tennessee’s offer to Gundy ranged from $6 million to upwards of $8 million per year. Gundy declined on Tuesday night, proclaiming on Twitter to be a “Cowboy For Life!”

Gundy made $4.2 million in 2017, and per the details of his contract, he was scheduled to receive an increase of $125,000 in January 2018, and every year going forward.

The contract is a fiveyear deal with a perpetual rollover factor that will continually add to the length of the contract until Gundy or OSU should choose to end it.

The addendum does not change the contents of anything else in Gundy’s contract, with the exception of the buyout Gundy would owe OSU should he leave. He will continue to receive a $125,000 raise each year of the contract going forward, starting in January 2019.

His buyout has been increased from $3 million to $5 million.

Oklahoma State went 9-3 in the regular season, and will learn its bowl destination on Sunday.

His $5 million salary puts Gundy tied for 10th on the list of highest paid college football coaches.
