Murray out against Jaguars

- FROM WIRE REPORTS

Tennessee Titans running back and former Oklahoma standout DeMarco Murray has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars because of a knee injury.

The Tennessee Titans will play their important regular-season finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars without former OU star running back DeMarco Murray.

Murray sprained his right knee in a 27-23 loss to the Los Angeles Rams last Sunday. Titans coach Mike Mularkey ruled Murray out Friday.

The Titans (8-7) face a win-and-in situation Sunday against Jacksonville as they attempt to reach the postseason for the first time since 2008.

With Murray out, the Titans will start Derrick Henry at running back with seldom-used David Fluellen serving as the primary backup.

Jets give GM Maccagnan, coach Bowles 2-year extensions

The New York Jets announced Friday it extended the contracts of general manager Mike Maccagnan and coach Todd Bowles, keeping the pair for at least the next three seasons through 2020.

The extensions are for two years each, according to a person with direct knowledge of the contracts. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team did not announce terms.

The announcement came two days before the Jets complete their season at New England. New York is 5-10 and will miss the playoffs for the seventh straight year and the third under Maccagnan and Bowles.

The decision is not a huge surprise, although there was growing speculation on Bowles' future as he completed the third year of his original four-year deal. He is 20-27 during his tenure with the Jets, and could be looking at his second straight 5-11 season.

But Bowles is credited with instilling a culture change among his players, who were in mostly every game this year. Seven of the Jets' 10 losses have been by 10 points or fewer.

Maccagnan oversaw a roster purge in the offseason that cleared big names and high salaries from the locker room, replaced by mostly younger — and lessexpensive — talents.

Giants' Engram, Shepard to miss regular-season finale

Eli Manning is going to be without his top two receivers for the New York Giants' regular-season finale against the Washington Redskins.

Interim coach Steve Spagnulo said Friday that rookie tight end Evan Engram and wide receiver Sterling Shepard will not play on Sunday.

Engram, who leads the team with receptions (64) and TD catches (6), has a rib injury. Shepard, the former Heritage Hall and OU standout, has a neck injury. He leads the Giants with 731 yards receiving.

Giants introduce Gettleman as new GM

Vowing to return the New York Giants to prominence, Dave Gettleman has taken over as general manager for the reeling franchise.

Speaking at a news conference Friday, less than 24 hours after his hiring was announced, the 67-year-old Gettleman declined to say how long it would take to rebuild the Giants (2-13) but noted there is plenty of talent on the team that made the playoffs a year ago under recently fired coach Ben McAdoo.

“I’ve been hired to win,” Gettleman said after introduced by co-owner John Mara. “The only promise I can make is I’m going to do everything in my power to lead this organization back to where it belongs.”

Gettleman replaces Jerry Reese, who was fired on Dec. 4 along with secondyear coach McAdoo.

The hiring is reunion for Gettleman. He worked for the franchise for 15 years before leaving in 2013 to become the general manger of the Carolina Panthers. He helped them reach the Super Bowl in the 2015 season. He was fired after the team missed the playoffs the next season.
