TULSA — A Tulsa man accused of starting a shootout over a gold chain and stealing a vehicle to escape has been named “Weekly Most Wanted” by the Tulsa Police Department.

Police investigators say Keith Mondale Stewart Jr., 19, fired a gun at another man Nov. 25 in an apartment parking lot in the 3100 block of South 145th East Avenue. Both men were wounded.

About two weeks later, Stewart targeted the man’s parents by firing at them while driving on Oklahoma 51, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Investigators say Stewart precipitated the shootout by attempting to steal gold chains from the other man’s neck.

The man “then pushed Keith away from him,” investigators state in the affidavit. “Keith then pulled out a gun and shot (the man) two times.”

Police said the other man retrieved a gun from a vehicle and returned fire.

Stewart then stole a Chevrolet Malibu and fled, police said. He crashed into another car near 61st Street and Garnett Road and left the scene, investigators allege.

Police said the shooting victim’s parents were interviewed by detectives on Dec. 8. As they left the detective’s offices, traveling east on Oklahoma 51, Stewart drove alongside them in his mother’s Chevrolet Tahoe and fired a gun, according to the affidavit.

The victim’s mother said “Keith pointed a gun at her as his vehicle was next to her,” leaned out the window and fired the handgun one time, investigators state in the affidavit.

Prosecutors charged Stewart on Dec. 21 with attempted robbery, shooting with intent to kill, larceny of a vehicle, two counts of possession of a firearm after juvenile adjudication and use of a vehicle in the discharge of a weapon, according to court records.
