Cole Corsnik threw the ball the length of the court.

Trailing Edmond Memorial by three points with one second remaining, the Choctaw guard’s pass found its way to teammate

Brock Schreiner who touch passed it to Austin

Daugherty, who caught it and launched from beyond the 3-point line while nearly falling over.

Swish.

“It was just God,” Daugherty said. “We knew we had to get something off quick. When I let it go, I just said ‘God, I hope that goes in.’”

The Choctaw bench exploded onto the court to dogpile the team like they had won, but Yellowjackets coach Brian Beale quickly rounded his guys up. The shot sent the game to overtime and they had five more minutes to play.

“I was worried that we would be excited just to tie things up,” Beale said. “But the momentum really carried over.”

Choctaw came out to a quick 6-0 run in overtime, before holding off Edmond Memorial 48-43 to advance in the winner’s bracket of

the Bishop McGuinness Classic.

Piedmont’s new coach growing comfortable

For his first game, Piedmont coach Eric Carr had to carry a notecard with his players’ names and numbers to keep everyone straight.

Two weeks later, Carr is feeling more comfortable with his team and they are continuing their winning ways on the court as they rolled through Casady 74-58 in the first round of the Bethany Classic.

Carr took over at Piedmont in late December after then-coach Aaron

Daniels was fired for violating the school’s communication policy.

Carr said he’s relying on junior guard Rylan

McDaniel and junior forward Dylan Hahn, who combined for 31 points on Thursday.

“Those two have really helped ease the transition,” Carr said.

PCO rallies to best Tulsa Union

Looking up at the scoreboard at halftime, Putnam City coach Daniel Cunningham was surprisingly pleased.

Despite his guys scoring two points in the second quarter and 15 in the half, they only trailed Tulsa Union by six points.

“I just told the guys, ‘It’s time to grind,’” Williams said.

In the end, it was the play of Putnam City guards

Jawaun Bell and Kelvin Dickerson that helped the Pirates claw back and beat Union 52-47.

Bell led with 18 points while Dickerson chipped in 9, six of which came in the final four minutes.

Everything works for Edmond Santa Fe

Edmond Santa Fe guard Donovan Vickers grabbed the miss, turned up court and fired from 60 feet out.

The three-quarters court shot swished nothing but net.

It was that kind of night for Santa Fe as they ran through hosting Bishop McGuinness Fighting Irish 68-44 in the opening round of the Bishop McGuinness Classic.

Vickers finished with 9 points while senior forward

Tyus Jeffries led the way with 21 points, 7 rebounds and four steals.

Santa Fe will face off against Edmond Memorial in the second round at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Putnam City North excited to host Invitational

Putnam City North hosted the Putnam City Invitational this year as Putnam City’s gym undergoes renovations. “We just wanted to generate some excitement,” North coach Ryan Wagner said. “We wanted to be good hosts and provide a good environment.”

North, the top-ranked team in Class 6A, beat Douglass 76-58 in the first round.
