A new home
A Hobby Lobby near Quail Springs Mall in north Oklahoma City is changing locations, but the business won’t be moving far.
A Hobby Lobby near the Quail Springs Mall is changing locations, but the business won’t be moving far.
The store at 2201 NW 138 will relocate to a building across the street, formerly occupied by Gordmans at 2201 W Memorial, Hobby Lobby Communications Coordinator Bob Miller said.
“I can confirm Hobby Lobby plans to relocate its store,” Miller said. “We project the new location will open September 2018.”
The building is owned by Dallas-based Lincoln Property Co. The space leased by Hobby Lobby was formerly occupied by Gordmans, and Best Buy is a co-tenant in the building.
Gordmans, an Omaha, Nebraska-based company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in March 2017, later closing its location on Memorial.
CBRE Inc. brokered the transaction for the nowempty 55,126-square-foot store. It is of similar size to Hobby Lobby’s current location, according to Miller, but offers several advantages.
“The new location is similar in size, but will give better visibility and (give) our customers easier access,” Miller said.
Hobby Lobby’s corporate headquarters are in Oklahoma City, the business has several locations in the Oklahoma City metro area, and several hundred across the country. The store near the Quail Springs Mall receives significant business, according to Miller, and the company feels the move is an improvement.
“That is a very popular store,” Miller said. “We are constantly looking for new locations and we think that location will be a winwin.”
