Jordan Owens went on a tear.

The senior Star Spencer guard found his spot on the right corner and proceeded to knock down 3-pointers throughout the game in a 85-63 victory against Centennial.

In a night where Class 3A No. 2-ranked Star Spencer (6-4) didn’t shoot the ball well, Owens made things a little easier to watch, says Star Spencer coach Lance Cudjoe.

“We aren’t offensively in sync like we need to be,” Cudjoe said. “We didn’t make good decisions in the first half, but we got better in the second and Jordan was good for us tonight.”

After a tight first quarter in which Star Spencer lead by one point 14-13, the Bobcats broke things open in the second quarter with a 26-point burst to go into halftime up 10 points.

In the second half, Owens dropped in four of his five 3-pointers on the night to finish with 18 points, making Centennial pay for not rotating on defense.

Cudjoe said Owens didn’t play much last year but is starting to show signs this year that he can be a contributor.

“He’s a safety in football,” Cudjoe said. “So he’s a very tough kid. We just need more consistency from him going forward.”

Star Spencer forward

Denis Mitchell finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. Fellow big men Nate Atkins and Brandon Zeno also finished with 10.

“We have a lot of things to still get better at,” Cudjoe said. “It’s a constant struggle to get kids to do what you want. But in the end I believe the lessons we learn in basketball will benefit them also in life.”

Centennial (5-6) was led by junior guard Moun’TAE Edmundson Jr. who had 15 and senior guard Nate Davis, who chipped in 14.
