Westmoore survives rally from Norman North

Westmoore looked ready to roll. Then it looked sluggish.

It was likely the result of a grueling three-day tournament last weekend, and it nearly cost the Jaguars.

Yet, No. 3 Westmoore still found a way to hold off No. 10 Norman North for a 64-55 victory Tuesday night.

“I think there was a little bit of fatigue,” senior guard

Jessi Murcer said. “But we had a lot of energy and hype coming into this game.”

Westmoore led by as much as 17 in the first half, looking like it was well on its way to a rout.

But Norman North, which hadn’t played in 10 days, recovered in the second half. Behind Lindsey Waters and Jessica Evans, the Timberwolves were able to close within six late in the game.

But the combination of Murcer, freshman Kendra

Gillispie and junior Kamy Carter worked to put the game away with free throws.

Murcer scored a gamehigh 22 points.

Gillispie finished with 19 points and five rebounds a few days after hitting the winning shot in the Lady Jaguar Classic title game.

“She’s getting better and better every game,” Murcer said. “By postseason she’s going to be great. She’s been showing up when we need her, and that’s important.”

MIDWEST CITY EDGES LAWTON IKE IN OT

Even without leading scorer Reneya Hopkins, Class 6A No. 14 Midwest City found a way to knock off Class 5A No. 1 Lawton Eisenhower.

It just took overtime on the road.

The Bombers beat Lawton Eisenhower 58-56 while at times playing three freshmen. They got 20 points from Koreea Kirksey and a double-double from Alexis Austin with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Hopkins missed the game with a concussion.

CASHION’S MANNING HAS CAREER NIGHT

Oklahoma Bible Academy had little answer for Cashion senior Sydney Manning. She had a career night as a result.

Manning scored a careerbest 41 points in 73-45 victory.

The guard who has signed with Missouri State scored 24 of Cashion’s 29 first-half points. She also had eight rebounds, seven steals and two blocks.

STEVENSON LEADS DOUGLASS PAST HERITAGE HALL

Douglass junior Caleigh Stevenson scored 19 points to lead the Trojans to a 46-31 victory over Heritage Hall.

It’s the second win for Douglass over the Chargers.

Douglass controlled from the start, leading 20-14 at halftime. Its defense allowed Heritage Hall to reach double figures in just one quarter.
