Arkansas hires Chavis, Craddock as coordinators
Arkansas coach Chad Morris has hired former Texas A&M defensive coordinator John
Chavis to help bring Southeastern Conference experience to his coaching staff.
The Razorbacks have also announced Joe Craddock will serve as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, continuing in the same role he held at SMU under Morris.
Chavis, 61, has spent the last 23 years as a defensive coordinator in the SEC, starting at Tennessee — where he was a part of the Volunteers national championship in 1998. He was also at LSU from 2009-14, winning the Broyles Award as the country's top assistant coach in 2011, and spent three years with the Aggies. Craddock, 32, was the offensive coordinator for the last three seasons with the Mustangs, helping the school average 40.2 points per game last season. He began his collegiate coaching career at Clemson.
Washington State hires new defensive coordinator
Washington State has hired former Minnesota head coach Tracy Claeys to be defensive coordinator.
The Cougars announced Claeys' hiring Monday. Claeys will replace Alex Grinch, who left for Ohio State after turning the Cougars defense into one of the best in the Pac-12. Washington State was No. 2 in total defense in the conference.
Claeys, 49, was most recently the head coach at Minnesota, taking over for Jerry Kill after Kill resigned due to health issues. Claeys went 11-8 and took the Golden Gophers to back-to-back bowls in his year and a half leading the program. His last victory came against Washington State in the Holiday Bowl, but was in the midst of 10 players being suspended in connection with sexual assault allegations.
