Mayfield, Washington named Lombardi Award candidates

Oklahoma quarterbac­k Baker Mayfield and Oklahoma State receiver James Washington were among the 21 national candidates for the Lombardi Award, announced this week.

The award goes to “an NCAA Division I player, regardless of position, based on performanc­e, leadership, character and resiliency.”

The Lombardi Award list will be narrowed to seven or fewer players, who will be named on Jan. 22. Four finalists will be invited to the Lombardi Honors presentati­on on Jan. 27 at Lone Star College in Houston, where the winner will be presented with the trophy live on ESPN3.

Texas Rangers Winter Caravan travels to OKC

The annual Texas Rangers Winter Caravan will travel to Chesapeake Energy Arena for the Oklahoma City Thunder-Los Angeles Lakers game on Wednesday.

Fans will have the chance to meet and receive autographs from Rangers pitcher Chris Martin, outfielder Ryan Rua, and FOX Sports Southwest Rangers broadcaste­r C.J. Nitkowski.

The Caravan is expected to arrive at 5 p.m.

OSU adds shooting guard Curtis Jones

Initially reported by media outlets in early January, Oklahoma State officially announced the addition of Curtis Jones to the basketball team.

Jones is transferri­ng from Indiana, leaving in the middle of his sophomore season.

At Huntington Prep in West Virginia, Jones was ranked as the nation’s No. 11 combo guard by 247Sports and the No. 69 overall player nationally according to Rivals. The Richmond, Virginia, native signed with Indiana and played in 40 games for the Hoosiers over the last two seasons.

Jones is expected to be eligible for the Cowboys following the 2018 fall semester and will have two seasons to play. He is enrolled in classes at OSU and is eligible to practice with the team.

As a freshman at Indiana, Jones appeared in 33 games for Indiana and shot 35.0 percent (21-of-60) from beyond the arc. He averaged 3.5 points and 1.3 rebounds in 11.2 minutes per game. He played in seven games before leaving Indiana in December.
