Oklahoma Southern Baptist leaders recently broke ground on a new collegiate ministries building on the University of Oklahoma campus.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the new Baptist Collegiate Ministries building was held Jan. 25 at 1203 Elm Ave., the future site for the structure on the OU campus. The project will include the construction of a new two-story, 28,400 squarefoot building at the corner of Elm Avenue and Elmwood.
Leaders with the convention and its affiliate Baptist Collegiate Ministries participated in the ceremony.
Convention leaders said money for the new building was raised through the convention’s “Sowing A Legacy” capital campaign.
A $4.2 million gift toward the effort OU collegiate ministries building was announced in September 2017. Steve Trice, founder and chairman of the board of Jasco Products made the major commitment and was recognized at a “Sowing A Legacy” celebration dinner.
The capital campaign also included efforts to raise funds for a collegiate building on the Oklahoma State University campus in Stillwater.
The Rev. Anthony Jordan, executive director-treasurer of the Oklahoma Baptist convention spoke about the construction plans at the convention’s annual meeting in November 2017 in Oklahoma City.
He said the building will fit the design of the college campus and be adjacent to student housing, including new built housing. He said estimated completion is set for fall 2018.
