Emergency preparedness will be focus
EDMOND — Churches in the Edmond and northwest Oklahoma City area are invited to “Coffee in the BunkerEdmond” from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at Edmond Emergency Management, 100 E First St.
The event is designed to bring church leaders together with emergency management leaders to connect individual churches with resources and relationships to be prepared for disasters. Edmond Emergency Management, a facility used to coordinate the emergency response for the city area, will host the coffee and doughnuts gathering, along with the Salt and Light Leadership Training (SALLT) Preparedness Circle.
The overall purpose of the SALLT Preparedness Circle is to nurture a culture that creates an environment in Oklahoma City as a “A City Loved by the Church.”
Coffee in the Bunker is free, but registration is required at www.SALLT.com.
Valentine’s Day ball is planned
A Valentine’s Ball will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Feb. 9 at Avery Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 1425 N Kelham. The event, sponsored by the church’s Le Vaughn Missionary Unit, will include dinner from 7:30 to 8 p.m. and a live DJ. Live music will be performed by Kerry Wayne’s Rock Star Band. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at averyokc.com/events.
Church to celebrate anniversary
St. Mary’s Christian Methodist Episcopal Church will celebrate its 83rd anniversary with two events on Feb. 11 at the church, 1201 N Martin Luther King Ave.
Evangelist Marsha Jordan will be the guest speaker at the 11 a.m. morning worship services. A musical will be at 3:30 p.m. featuring soloists and choirs from throughout the city. Theme for the celebration is “A New Hope.”

Library will host Crowns Tea
GUTHRIE — The third annual Crowns Tea will be at 1 p.m. Feb. 17 at Guthrie Public Library, 201 N Division.
The event is designed to capture the self-expressions of women of all ages, from young glamorous ladies to serene and stylish grandmothers and is based on the book “Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats” by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry. Refreshments and entertainment will be provided. Space is limited and free tickets are available at the library. All attendees must wear a hat (church hat is preferred), and registration is required.

Mission event is planned
EDMOND — St. John the Baptist Catholic Church’s annual mission entitled “Living Out Our Baptismal Commitment” is set for 7 p.m. Feb. 19-21 at the church, 900 S Littler.
The Rev. Joe Creedon, pastor of Christ the King Catholic Church in Kingston, Rhode Island, will be guest speaker. Creedon is not only a pastor but also has a legacy of stewardship. He has had numerous speaking engagements over the years and numerous published writings.
Presentations for each evening include: Feb. 19, examine one’s vision for the church and what one are willing to do to develop that vision into reality; Feb. 20, baptism and taking ownership of one’s faith and Church; and Feb. 21, the Eucharist as the stewardship sacrament par excellence.
A reception will be after the Feb. 21 presentation.
