- FROM STAFF REPORTS

LOS ANGELES — The No. 1-ranked Oklahoma women’s gymnastics team topped No. 4 UCLA 198.050-197.900 on Sunday.

The Sooners secured the win with a 49.775 on beam, setting a new school record.

“Wow. You could not have scripted a more dramatic ending,” head coach K.J. Kindler said. “Tied going into the last event, each team just nailing it, the crowd was absolutely engaged in everything that was happening. I’m really honored to be part of an environment like that. Our team thrives under that. I’m really excited about how they handled it.”

Six gymnasts in the meet recorded at least one perfect 10 with three OU gymnasts earning their first 10s of the season.

Junior Brenna Dowell notched the first 10 of the season for the Sooners with an impressive vault.

Anastasia Webb recorded the first 10 of her career with a routine on balance beam.

“Anastasia rose up at the end and that was really nice to see,” Kindler said. “She’s been a rockstar as a freshman, hitting the all-around every single meet. I’m really proud of how she has done. On beam, she’s proving to be very sturdy. With the 10 that happened on floor, the crowd was going crazy and she handled it very well.”

Maggie Nichols closed the meet with the eighth 10 of her career and fourth on beam. Nichols scored a nation-leading 39.900 in the all-around, .025 behind her career high. The sophomore took home the all-around title along with event titles on bars and beam.
