Four more in-state kids commit to walk on at OSU
The Cowboys preferred walk-on list keeps growing.
Oklahoma State received commitments from four in-state recruits to become preferred walk-ons for the Cowboys. Chickasha receiver and defensive back David Thibodeaux-Benoit, Jay quarterback Gabe Simpson and his leading receiver Brenden Ryan all announced on Twitter that they planned on committing to Oklahoma State as preferred walk-ons.
Newcastle receiver Jacob Morris, a member of The Oklahoman's All-State team, said he plans to announce his intentions of committing to Oklahoma State as a preferred walk-on this Wednesday, which is National Signing Day. Preferred walkons at Oklahoma State are guaranteed a spot on the team, but are not given any financial aid for school or living expenses.
This comes just days after the Cowboys got commitments from Edmond Santa Fe running back Mbari Snoddy and Tulsa Union linebacker Braden Spicer to come to Stillwater to be preferred walk-ons.
Westmoore's Palmer flips commitment to Tulsa
Just days before National Signing Day, Westmoore tight end James Palmer changed his mind. Palmer announced Saturday afternoon that he had flipped his commitment to Tulsa a few weeks after committing to Sam Houston State. A two-star recruit, the 6-foot-1, 230-pound senior returned in the fall after rupturing his Achilles tendon as a junior. This season, he caught 27 passes for 441 yards and eight touchdowns. He averaged 16.3 yards per reception. Ranked No. 22 on The Oklahoman’s Super 30 rankings of the state’s top college recruits, Palmer also had offers from Arkansas State and Colorado State.
Community Christian guard breaks record
Community Christian School senior Heath Abrahamsen lit it up on Friday night, scoring 40 points against Wynnewood and setting a school record. Abrahamsen’s record-setting night helped CCS get the win against Wynnewood 63-43, the Royals' third-straight victory.
Community Christian is 13-6 on the season and has two tournament victories in the Big 8 and Lindsay tournaments. Abrahamsen becomes just the 24th player this season to join the 40-point-club according to iwasatthegame.com.
Wynnewood's Jayden Smith on scoring tear
Veteran girls basketball coach Rhonda Fields has coached some special players in her career. But there’s something she loves about Wynnewood senior Jayden Smith’s versatility.
At 5-6, Smith has found a way to become a dominant small forward for Class 2A Wynnewood as the playoffs near. And that's led to an impressive scoring tear. She’s averaged 24.8 points in her last six games to extend the team’s winning streak to 11 games.
“She was a little more of a distributor last year and now she’s more of a recipient,” Fields said. “She can play almost anywhere.”
Last season, Smith was Wynnewood’s point guard. But with the emergence of some young guards, Fields was able to move her star.
