Cowgirls sweep doubleheader over Kansas
The Oklahoma State softball team picked up a pair of conference victories over Kansas on Thursday in Lawrence, Kansas.
The Cowgirls edged the Jayhawks 2-1 in the opener and then recorded a 7-0 win in the second game of the doubleheader at Arrocha Ballpark.
OSU (27-11, 6-2 in Big 12 play), won the first
game in nine innings.
Samantha Clakley pitched 7.2 innings while Logan
Simunek got the final four outs in the circle and improved to 7-3 on the season.
Chelsea Alexander scored the winning run as she raced home from second base in the top of the ninth after Maddi Holcomb lined a ball through the first baseman's legs.
The Cowgirl bats came to life in game two as OSU racked up seven runs on 12 hits to cap off the doubleheader sweep.
Madi Sue Montgomery was 3-of-4 at the plate, had 3 RBI and scored two runs for the Cowgirls. She had an RBI triple in the top of the sixth that pushed the Cowgirls lead to 6-0. She now leads the club with 43 RBI on the season. Emmie Robertson was dominant in the circle in the nightcap, tossing a complete game shutout. She allowed no runs on three hits, struck out three, walked none and improved to 9-4 on the year.
Oklahoma State and Kansas will finish the series at 3 p.m. on Friday, weather permitting.
