Principal staffing shuffle continues in OKC district

Five principals in the Oklahoma City district — including one celebrated this week as outstanding — will lead different schools in the coming year, The Oklahoman has learned.

Johnson Elementary Principal Margaret Saunders-Simpson will lead Wilson Elementary in the 2018-19 school year, the district reported. She will succeed Susan MarshallArmstrong, who will become principal at Jackson Enterprise Elementary.

Marshall-Armstrong will succeed Katherine Price, who resigned last month to accept a similar position with Bridge Creek Public Schools.

Saunders-Simpson and Webster Middle School Principal Scot McAdoo received outstanding principal awards Tuesday night at the Stars of Education event hosted by the Foundation for Oklahoma City Public Schools.

Bodine Elementary Principal Nikki Coshow is also changing schools. Coshow will succeed Alisa Stieg at Edgemere Elementary after Stieg resigned to accept a similar position with Norman Public Schools.

Two middle school administrators — Taft Principal Charmaine Johnson and Rogers Principal Cody Stull — are switching schools, according to the district.

In a statement, Oklahoma City Public Schools spokeswoman Beth Harrison said contract agreements allow administrators to request a move to another school, while board policy indicates that administrators can expect to be reassigned periodically.

“When this happens, district leaders evaluate options and make decisions based on what is in the best interest of the schools and students,” Harrison said.

Additionally, the district has elevated seven interim principals to permanent status.

They are Carson Cramer (Capitol Hill Elementary), Melissa Marschall (Cesar Chavez Elementary), Kimberly Seybolt (Hayes Elementary), Thomas McNeely (Douglass Mid-High), Anjanette Wallace-Sela (North Highland Elementary), Theressa Manzanedo (Stand Watie Elementary) and Deserae Jackson (Wheeler Elementary).

All seven have served as interim principals since the start of the current school year, which ends May 29.

Two other interim principals named in the middle of the school year will be re-evaluated in December, the district reported.

They are Angela Lewis (Northeast Academy) and Jessica Johnson (Thelma Parks Elementary).

The district, meanwhile, is looking to fill vacancies at four schools following the resignation of Ashley Davis, principal of Classen School of Advanced Studies.

Davis will become the new superintendent of Drumright Public Schools.

The other schools with openings are Bodine Elementary, Greystone Elementary and Johnson Elementary.
