Defending champion makes return to state title game

-

EDMOND — Class B’s defending champion has a chance to defend its title.

No. 1-ranked Leedey used a seven-run second inning to rout No. 7 Granite 13-3 during Friday’s state semifinals at Edmond Memorial’s baseball field.

Leedey (29-3) will play No. 2 Drummond at noon Saturday at Dolese Park aiming for a second straight state championship.

In that second inning, the Bison did the most damage with two outs.

Paxton Knight, batting ninth, hit a bases-loaded double to score three and tie the game. Christopher Goldston then tripled for the lead Leedey would never relinquish. Leedey followed with four straight singles, all scoring runs.

Goldston, who dominated on the mound Thursday, finished 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Ty Goss also had three RBIs.

Dalton Goff pitched all five innings and allowed just two earned runs on five hits and two walks.

Drummond 4, Red Oak 2

No. 2 Drummond could have felt the pressure.

Trailing to powerhouse Red Oak late in the game, it’s no easy task to make a comeback. Drummond, however, found a way.

With a three-run fifth inning, Drummond advance to the state championship game, erasing a 2-1 deficit.

Drummond (34-4) is searching for the school’s first ever state championship in any sport Saturday.

Seth Gray led Drummond at the plate, going 1 for 3. Garrett DeHaas earned the victory and Wyatt Gray earned the save.
