Alvarez, Golovkin set for rematch on Sept. 15
Canelo Alvarez and middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin have agreed to a rematch on Sept. 15 in Las Vegas.
Oscar De La Hoya, Alvarez’s promoter, confirmed the highly anticipated bout on his Twitter account Wednesday. “I’m happy to inform that we have a fight September 15 !!!! ,” he tweeted.
Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 knockouts) and Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 knockouts) had a fight scheduled for May 5 until Alvarez received a six-month suspension by the Nevada Athletic Commission for failing two drug tests in February for the performance-enhancing drug clenbuterol.
The first fight between the boxing superstars ended in a draw last September.
