Blood drive is scheduled

Oral Surgery Specialist­s of Oklahoma will host a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at 4320 McAuley. The American Red Cross reported a shortfall in blood donations in May and June, and urges anyone who can give blood to do so. Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Teens as young as 16 can give blood with parental consent.

New clinic set to open

Variety Care will cut the ribbon on its new Britton Health Center at 5 p.m. Aug. 14. The clinic is at 721 W Britton Road. Tours will be available from 4-6 p.m. that afternoon. To sign up, go to bit.ly/brittonrib­boncutting.

Eye doctors urge exams

The Oklahoma Associatio­n of Optometric Physicians urges parents to schedule eye exams for their children as they head back to school. Support group training offered

The National Alliance on Mental Illness will offer training in September for people who have a loved one with a mental health condition and want to lead a support group. The training is free, but those who attend must commit to lead a group for at least one year. The two-day sessions run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. both days.

Medical associatio­n president takes over

Dr. Jean Hausheer, a Lawton ophthalmol­ogist, was installed as president of the Oklahoma State Medical Associatio­n earlier this year. She is the first president of the organizati­on to come from Lawton, where she works at a branch of the Dean McGee Eye Institute, Comanche County Memorial Hospital and Lawton Indian Hospital.
