Yukon elementary school earns award

Parkland Elementary School was honored recently with the Action Based Learning School of the Year award by Healthy Schools Oklahoma.

Each year, the honor is awarded to one school that has displayed dedication and creativity to the Healthy Schools Oklahoma program, specifical­ly with its Action Based Learning lab and adding movement for students throughout the school day. McGuinness upgrades audio system

A new audio system has been installed in the Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School music room thanks to a grant from the Catholic Foundation of Oklahoma and the Bobby Dean Little Trust.

Two high-frequency speakers, an amplifier, a mixer and a lavalier system were bought and installed with the $2,500 grant received. The teachers now will be able to connect wirelessly to the sound system with their laptops and iPads.

Dutch oven cooking class offered

KINGFISHER — A Dutch oven cooking class will be offered from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Chisholm Trail Museum, 605 Zellers Ave. Students will learn to care for cast-iron cookware and then create a Dutch oven delight of their own in small groups. The class will explore historical and modern recipes while learning how to cook in their backyards. This class is restricted to adult students and children ages 10 and older, and is limited to 36 students. Cost for the class is $25 per person, or $40 per pair, and preregistr­ation is required. Participan­ts should dress for the weather, wear closed-toed shoes and bring a lawn chair. For reservatio­ns, contact the museum at 405-375-5176. FROM STAFF REPORTS
