A wonderful experience

I am a graduate of West Point and had the good fortune of attending the Oklahoma-Army game on Saturday. And although I am (understandably) disappointed in the outcome, I wanted to point out how classy the OU fans were throughout the game. Clearly, they deeply respect the military and the great fight that the Army team put up. When the game ended and the Army team was exiting, many of the OU faithful stood up and applauded the great effort made by these young men. Best of luck with the rest of your season.

A sad division

Regarding “Dueling faith campaigns focus on abortion,” (News, Sept. 20): Seems as if the abortionists always have a “view” or an “opinion” as to their validity. Conversely, the anti-abortion folks will generally refer to what God has said about the issue, using references to both testaments. Similar divisions are often apparent with issues focusing on our Constitution. The comparison seems to be repeated with political parties. And I could go on. How sad and even shameful is this division, noting that God cannot bless a house that rejects Him. May the voice of Kate Smith ring true in every heart today. This should encourage every Oklahoman to vote carefully, even if it means voting for the candidate you dislike the least. Our state and agencies are in a mess. Let’s MOGA.

Justice?

“Dueling faith campaigns focus on abortion” (News, Sept. 20) highlights new “reproductive justice” Oklahoma billboards claiming, “God loves those who have abortions.” Is it justice to mislead thousands of young Oklahoma women each year into possibly suffering severe physical and mental health lifetime consequences, pressured by boyfriends, parents or husbands, and deceived by abortion clinics whose botched abortions can cause severe hemorrhaging, lacerated uteruses, infections, gangrene, peritonitis, shock, coma or death?

Long-term abortion health hazards include miscarriages, infertility, tubal pregnancies, hysterectomies, posttraumatic stress syndrome, flashbacks, nightmares, insomnia, guilt, feelings of loss and hopelessness, depression, grief, anger, self-injury, alcoholism, drug abuse, broken relationships, divorce and suicide.

Is it justice to deny pre-birth babies civil rights? Prebies are not the mother’s body. They are self-contained humans at conception, needing only nutrients, oxygen and a safe place to grow. Their heart is beating at 10 weeks, and they feel intense pain at 20 weeks while being organ-harvested by Planned Parenthood. Justice?

Fallin should back off

Regarding Gov. Fallin’s desire to “help fix” problems at the local Veterans Medical Center. I'm a veteran and use this medical center. It’s so messed up now, the last thing it needs is for her to mess it up even more. I can only imagine how she wants to “fix” it and how it would end up turning out. Fallin needs to just back off. I cannot wait for the November elections and hopefully get a governor who can undo a lot of the damage she has done, although I don't know that is possible.
