The cousin of a man found dead Saturday in a homicide in southwest Oklahoma City hopes police find the killer soon.

Ricardo Moreno Perez, 38, was found dead in his home in the 3800 block of SW 40 Place about 11:15 a.m. Saturday.

The state medical examiner has determined Perez suffered a gunshot wound to the right side of his chest, a spokesman said.

Jose Moreno, 27, who lives in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County, California, said he is traveling to Oklahoma City soon to get his cousin’s body back to Mexico for burial.

Perez, a construction worker, left California about five years ago to work for friends in Oklahoma, Moreno said. He had planned to leave Oklahoma City in December to move to Union de San Antonio, a city in the central Mexican state of Jalisco, to get married and live near his family there. “He was a quiet man and he liked to be alone mostly,” Moreno said. “He was always calm.”

Moreno said his cousin did not have any relatives in the Oklahoma City area, and he is afraid the case could grow cold.

“He matters to us,” Moreno said. “He mattered to me, and now we don’t want this case to go cold, and we just hope we can find whoever did this.”

No one has been arrested in the death, said police Master Sgt. Gary Knight.

The death is the 47th homicide of the year in Oklahoma City.
