Gallogly to recommend alcohol sales at select Sooner sporting events

University of Oklahoma President Jim Gallogly will recommend to the Board of Regents Wednesday that alcohol be sold at select Sooner sporting events.

According to the Regents agenda, the proposal is that alcohol would be available at men's and women’s basketball games in 2018-19, and football, baseball and softball games in 2019.

Both Gallogly and OU athletic director Joe Castiglione have reiterated that whatever decision is made on stadium alcohol sales won't be a financial one.

"It's a fan experience item pure and simple," Gallogly told The Oklahoman last month. "There's a little bit of money that can be made. Some people thought alcohol sales would be a big moneymaker. Not really. Not in the overall scheme of things."

Oklahoma State began selling beer at football games this fall. Texas and West Virginia are the only other schools that sell beer at games throughout the stadium. Alcohol is only offered in suites at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

When pressed last month, Gallogly wouldn't divulge his opinion on the issue.

"I can't predetermine where the regents are," Gallogly said. "They will ultimately make the call.

I try not to say it will be approved, it won't be approved. I don't want to speak for my regents, but we have given them a preliminary assessment of what has happened at other stadiums and whether the programs have been well received or not."

Gallogly will also recommend the advertising of alcoholic beverages. The university Board of Regents will meet Wednesday afternoon at Cameron University in Lawton.

Murray ties Mayfield

Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Monday for the fourth time this season.

Murray ties former Sooner quarterback Baker Mayfield's single-season OU record of four Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week awards.

The junior from Allen, Texas, was 19 of 24 passing for 213 yards and four touchdowns Saturday in OU's 52-27 win at TCU. He ran nine times for 51 yards.

He wasn't the only Sooner to win an award. Redshirt freshman running back Kennedy Brooks was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week.

Brooks pounded TCU for a career-high 168 rushing yards on 9.3 yards per carry. He did his damage without recording a carry in the first quarter.

Injury update

Oklahoma running back Trey Sermon suffered a lower-leg injury in the fourth quarter Saturday against TCU. Coach Lincoln Riley said there was "nothing to report" when asked Monday about Sermon's status.

"We’ll just have to see how that one goes," Riley said.

Sermon rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns Saturday before he exited.

The sophomore from Marietta, Georgia., leads the Sooners with 458 rushing yards. He and Murray are tied for the team lead with five rushing touchdowns.

Sermon has been OU's primary running back since former starter Rodney Anderson suffered a seasonending knee injury in Week 2 against UCLA.

Junior receiver Marquise Brown was also banged up against TCU. Riley said he was doing well.

"I don’t anticipate any issues there," Riley said. "I think other than that we were pretty clean.

Kickoff announcement delayed
