-

The Monsters & Margaritas costume party will begin at 8 p.m. Oct. 27 at DC on Film Row, 609 W Sheridan.

Funds raised by Monsters & Margaritas will benefit the Oklahoma City Girls Art School’s mission of empowering young girls to be successful in life through life-changing programs in the visual arts.

Those attending the costume party will enter through a maze, dance to the beats with DJ Dre, be entertained by performances by Oklahoma City's flame-throwing native Orange Rex and have their fortunes read by the wandering gypsy Madam Vulga. A selection of themed hors d’oeuvres and margaritas also will be served. Costumes are encouraged, and prizes will be awarded for the best couple, group and goriest costumes. An after party also is planned from midnight to 2 a.m.

The OKC Girls Art School serves third- through ninth-grade girls from communities surrounding Mark Twain, Gatewood and Hawthorne elementary schools, as well as Dove Science Academy and ASTEC Middle School. Each student attends the program two days a week after school and receives free hands-on leadership and empowerment training using visual arts education.
