Veterans Day Parade canceled over weather

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Midwest City has canceled its Veterans Day parade.

Initially scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, city officials cited weather concerns as the reason not to put on the parade this year. The parade will not be rescheduled.

The announcement was made Friday on the city’s website.

“The welfare and safety of our community is always our top priority,” the announcement said. “We could not ask the community, our veterans, or the parade entrants to be out in the cold, wet and windy conditions that are predicted for Monday morning.”

Officials said the decision to the cancel the parade was made in consultation with weather forecast experts and emergency management professionals.

The parade route was to run from Century Boulevard and SE 15, east to Douglas Boulevard then north to Reno Avenue, and ending at Reno Avenue and Morris McGee Drive.
