Cowgirls edge Red Wolves in season opener

STILLWATER — Braxtin Miller scored 23 points as the Oklahoma State women's basketball team held off Arkansas State 62-60 in its season opener on Friday at GallagherI­ba Arena.

Miller shot 5 of 8 from 3-point range and had eight rebounds. LaTashia Jones added 10 points for the Cowgirls and finished with 21 rebounds — one shy of the school record set by Toni Young in 2011.

Jireh Washington led Arkansas State with 15 points.

The Red Wolves cut OSU's advantage to 61-60 with six seconds left before Jaden Hobbs made a free throw with five seconds remaining to give the Cowgirls a 62-60 lead. Arkansas State was unable to attempt a shot before the final buzzer.

The Cowgirls shot 24 of 70 from the field and 7 of 19 from 3-point range. Arkansas State struggled from beyond the arc and finished 2 for 13. The Red Wolves shot 19 of 55 from the field.
