OSU to recognize seniors Saturday

STILLWATER — At least 18 players will be recognized as part of Oklahoma State’s senior day activities before the West Virginia game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium.

Excluding juniors such as Jordan Brailford and Justice Hill, who could opt for the NFL after this season, here’s a look at the players expected to be honored on Saturday:

Britton Abbott, Cowboy back

Former walk-on has become a vital fullback-style blocker the last two seasons.

Trey Carter, DT

Originally a defensive end, Carter became a major contributo­r at tackle, with 23 tackles and two sacks this year.

Taylor Cornelius, QB

A fifth-year senior and former walk-on, Cornelius was a career backup until getting his opportunit­y this season, throwing for 3,123 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Darrion Daniels, DT*

Impactful player since early in his career, but missed all but four games this season with a torn finger tendon.

Kenneth Edison-McGruder, S

Spent part of his career at safety, part at linebacker, and has been a significan­t piece of the secondary this year with 52 tackles, 7.5 of them for loss.

Tyler Ferguson, DE

Walk-on who found ways to contribute on special teams.

Sione Finefeuiak­i, Cowboy back

Junior-college transfer who has been a valuable blocker and caught his first career touchdown pass earlier this season.

Matt Hockett, P

After seeing occasional action previously, he has served as the holder for placekicks and filled in at punter in multiple games this season.

John Kolar, QB

A fourth-year junior and valuable scout-team player, the Norman North High School product could seek a graduate transfer opportunit­y at a lower-level program.

Deionte Noel, OL

Primary rotation player at guard this season when he’s been healthy.

Jarrell Owens, DE

Significan­t contributo­r since his freshman year. His 5.0 sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss rank second for the Cowboys this season.

Justin Phillips, LB

Defensive leader who earned the Leslie O’Neal Award as the team’s most outstandin­g defensive player last season. Leads the team with 74 tackles this year.

Shane Richards, OL

Junior-college transfer who has battled injuries at times this season, but has been in the primary rotation when healthy.

Zach Sinor, P

A four-year starter, Sinor has averaged 42.2 yards on 195 punts in his career, with 81 being downed inside the 20 and 38 of 50 yards or more.

Enoch Smith Jr., DT

Junior-college transfer who entered the rotation immediatel­y and has been a starter this season, compiling 17 tackles and a fumble recovery.

Sam Walkingsti­ck, LS

Fourth-year junior who has been a notably consistent long snapper since taking over the role as a freshman.

Cole Waltersche­id, DE

Emerged as a sophomore as a reliable playmaker at defensive end, and has three tackles for loss with two sacks this season.

Larry Williams, OL

Sixth-year senior who has battled injuries and the recent death of his mother during his three seasons at OSU. When healthy, he’s been a starter at right guard.

*-Eligible to redshirt this season and return next year.
