As Aaron Morales strutted toward the ring at Chesapeake Energy Arena, there was something noticeably different about his entrance.

The Oklahoma City boxer, who defeated Mexico's Francisco Lapizco by unanimous decision Friday night, walked out wearing a gold mask to cheers from his hometown.

“I just wanted to try it out today in front of the home crowd,” Morales said.

After outlasting Lapizco to stay undefeated at 5-0, Morales said the gold mask might be something he turns into a tradition.

Morales had conversations with his father about wanting to have a special entrance in his hometown. His dad came up with the idea to wear the mask and Morales was all in, happy to do something different for his home crowd.

“I never thought I’d be here, especially at Chesapeake. It’s just crazy, a crazy feeling fighting in your hometown,” Morales said.

Multiple times throughout the fight, it seemed that Morales was about to knock out Lapizco, but the fight went the whole six rounds.

“I wish I could have got the stoppage,” Morales. “I had hurt him a few times, but he’s a tough opponent.”

Morales said his next fight might be in Dallas on Feb. 2, with another potential fight on the Mikey Garcia and Errol Spence card in March.

Extra jabs

Toledo's Albert Bell has a famous name and quite the fashion game in the ring. While his surname only has one "e" — unlike former Cleveland Indians slugger Albert Belle — the undefeated lightweight boxer has his own power game. Sporting some flashy blue-and-silver shorts, Bell defeated Colombia's Carlos Padilla by technical knockout in six rounds.
