Town hall will focus on police, youth
A town hall meeting focused on bridging the gap between youth and police is scheduled from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Norman Public Schools Administration Building, 131 S Flood Ave. Food will be provided. The event is held in partnership with the Norman Police Department, Bridges and the Citizens Police Academy Alumni of Norman.
To register for the event, go to www.eventbrite.com and search Norman Police + Youth Town Hall. For more information, contact Officer Ali Jaffery at 405-366-5279 or ali.jaf[email protected]manok.gov.
The Norman Police Department began a partnership with The Police Training Institute by beginning its Fight Crime: Invest in Kids Program in October. The partnership provides the agency with additional tools that can assist with its daily interactions with the youth in the Norman community.
Information from the town hall meeting will be paired with research collected through site visits, listening sessions, and ride-alongs to craft a new law enforcement curriculum focusing on topics such as adolescent brain development, de-escalation skills and techniques, implicit bias barriers, and trauma-informed response protocols.
