OSU’s Hill named Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Departing Oklahoma State junior running back Justice Hill was named the Big 12 Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Tuesday.

Hill, who along with OSU Cowboy back Britton Abbott was named an Academic All-American on Monday, is the first Cowboy to receive the honor, which the conference's head coaches vote on.

To be eligible, a player must be a junior or senior, have a 3.20 GPA or higher, participat­e in at least 20 percent of his team's contest and have been at the school for at least a year. Hill has a 3.64 GPA in his pursuit of a finance degree, per an OSU release.

Sporting News names Wallace a first-team All-American

Oklahoma State sophomore receiver Tylan Wallace landed on Sporting News' All-America first team, his first first-team recognitio­n among the recognized AllAmerica teams.

Wallace, who posted 1,408 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, was also named a second-team All-American by the Associated Press and Walter Camp Foundation. Additional­ly, ESPN had Wallace as a first-team All-American and Sports Illustrate­d had him on its second team.

•OSU: Crescent's Hunter Bowers announced on Tuesday afternoon that he has committed to OSU as a preferred walk-on for the football team.

Bowers, a senior, confirmed that OSU was looking at him to fill the Cowboy Back role, the hybrid position of fullback and tight end.

•UTAH STATE: Former Utah State coach Gary Andersen has returned to the Aggies.

Andersen previously was Utah State's coach from 2009 to 2012. He replaces Sallisaw High School alum Matt Wells, who was named head coach at Texas Tech last month.

Andersen left the Aggies to take the head coaching job at Wisconsin, then coached at Oregon State for two-plus seasons before unexpected­ly stepping down in the midst of the 2017 season. He served as an assistant at Utah under coach Kyle Whittingha­m last season.

•CLEMSON: An autopsy report states that ex-Clemson running back C.J. Fuller died of a blood clot that lodged in an artery in his lungs.

Fuller died at the age of 22 on Oct. 3. He played three seasons with the Tigers and was part of Clemson's national championsh­ip team in 2016.

The report also said Fuller had surgery on his leg on Sept. 19, two weeks before he died.
