Allen pipeline continues with two more signings
Allen High School has been kind to Oklahoma recently.
After all, the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback and the starting left tackle off this year’s Sooners team came from the Dallas-area powerhouse.
Wednesday, that pipeline kept going strong when a pair of Eagles signed with Oklahoma — five-star wide receiver Theo Wease Jr. and guard EJ Ndoma-Ogar.
Wease is the top-ranked receiver in the nation in the 2019 class, according to Rivals, and the No. 3 player overall in the class.
"It's an honor," Wease said. "I've been waiting for this day since the first time I committed. Growing up as a kid, I used to always dream about signing that white paper.”
Wease is the highestranked recruit the Sooners have signed since Adrian Peterson in 2004. Peterson was the No. 1 player that year.
Just a few miles away from Allen, Carrollton Hebron star receiver Trejan Bridges signed with Oklahoma as well.
Bridges is the No. 4 receiver in the class according to Rivals.
Stogner shakes family legacy to join OU
Tight end signee Austin Stogner’s parents both went to Baylor. His father, Brad, played tight end for the Bears. His sister goes to school there.
But even though Baylor offered, Stogner wound up signing with the Sooners after committing during the summer of 2017.
“Long time coming,” Stogner said during a ceremony at Prestonwood Christian Academy.
Stogner said there was no family pressure to choose Baylor.
“I love the campus (at OU),” Stogner said. “I feel like if I wasn’t a football player, I’d still be going to OU so that side is important to me and then football, that goes without saying. It’s unbelievable.”
Rattler impressed Riley early
When linebackers coach Tim Kish brought Lincoln Riley film of a quarterback after the 2015 season, Riley was a little stunned.
The quarterback was just a freshman and there’s little chance of a player that young at that position making enough of an impression to matter much that early. Riley’s attitude changed when the video started playing.
“I was like, ‘OK,’” Riley said Wednesday after the quarterback on that film — Spencer Rattler — signed with the Sooners. “Right away you could see there was something special there.”
Riley said it was the earliest he’d ever offered a player.
Rattler was suspended from game activity for 30 days in October for a violation of his school’s code of conduct, effectively ending his senior season. Riley said that suspension wasn’t a concern.
“Conversations with him and his family, we’ve had a good, open relationship with them for a long time, so zero concern,” Riley said.
