The Four Tops, a Disney artist and teams lead way

MEMPHIS, TENN. —

Oklahoma State held on for a wild 38-33 win over Missouri in the 60th annual Liberty Bowl.

Here’s a look at the best and worst of Monday’s game:

Missouri unveiled its “Sailor Tiger” helmet logo from the 1970s, using a yellow logo on a white helmet. If the logo seemed familiar to OSU fans, Baylor had a “Sailor Bear” throwback logo for the Cowboy game. Both logos were drawn by the same artist, Arthur

Evans, once a Disney cartoonist who designed more than 100 school logos in the 1960s and 1970s that wore sailor hats. Best throwback performance

The Four Tops, the quartet that was among the most popular Motown groups in the 1960s, took the stage in white sequin shirts and performed three of its hits, including “Reach Out, I’ll Be There.” Duke

Fakir is the only remaining member of the original group. He took the stage first on Monday. Best debut

Maybe it could’ve been better, but it was still the best of the day. Backup quarterback Dru Brown made his Cowboy debut, a 3-yard gain on a handoff to LD Brown. Dru was promptly replaced by starter Taylor Cornelius, who had to sit out one play after his helmet came off at the end of a run. Worst paint job

The field painters at Liberty Bowl Stadium had a tough task covering all of the University of Memphis logos on the field and in the end zones. Then the rain throughout the past few days complicated things. The paint bled outside its borders in spots, particularly in the end zones, where the blue paint soaked into the white boundary paint. Worst video timing

Coordinating the intro videos didn’t go smoothly for Liberty Bowl operators. The OSU intro video played well before the Cowboys were in position to take the field. Missouri’s video aired after the Tigers had already run on. Worst special teams play

Missouri. Yes, really, OSU fans. It’s been a rough year for the Cowboys on special teams, but Mizzou outdid them on Monday. OSU blocked a field goal late in the fourth quarter that could’ve put Missouri ahead. Tack that onto a missed extra point, another that was partially blocked, a mishandled punt, a kickoff out of bounds, and a couple other miscues, and it wasn’t anything special for the Tigers.
