Edmond Santa Fe coach Josh Williams is comfortable with the expectations.

It's a part of his team's identity.

No. 1-ranked Edmond Santa Fe remained undefeated on the year (11-0) after dispatching Norman North 60-43 in the semifinals of the 59th annual McGuinness Classic.

“Santa Fe has a culture of winning, and I think our kids embody that a little bit,” Williams said. “They expect to win, and they have bought into what we are trying to do.”

Against Norman North, senior Ben Smith scored 15 points while also recording five rebounds, three blocks and two steals.

Williams said Smith, who is one of the few key returners from the Wolves' Class 6A runner-up team from last season, has really begun to buy in on the defensive side of the floor.

“That’s kind of a new and improved Ben,” Williams said. “He’s taking pride on that side of the floor and really feeds off it and plays his best when he’s playing down hill.”

Tennial leads the way for Edmond Memorial

Edmond Memorial senior Drew Tennial made his living at the rim against Midwest City on Friday night.

Tennial finished with 24 points and 16 rebounds, seven of them on the offensive glass, as Edmond Memorial took care of Midwest City 63-53 to advance to the championship game of the McGuinness Classic.

Fellow Memorial big man JV Seat was also dominant in the paint, scoring 16 points and grabbing eight rebounds.
