Norman star Cade Horton

plans to continue a Sooners trend.

The Tigers’ star baseball player and quarterback announced Tuesday that he is flipping his baseball commitment to Oklahoma, where he will also play football.

Horton, a junior, was committed to Ole Miss. But he’ll get a chance to be a two-sport star at OU, which is no stranger to its quarterbacks playing baseball.

Kyler Murray recently won the Heisman Trophy and declared for the NFL Draft. He was also drafted in the first round by the Oakland A’s last summer. Before Murray, Cody Thomas

played both sports. He’s currently in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ minor league system.

Horton has a chance to be a high baseball draft pick out of high school. Last spring, he batted .461 with three home runs, 10 doubles, four triples and 29 RBI. He also stole 23 bases. On the mound, he was 3-4 with a 2.89 ERA and 59 strikeouts.

In the fall, he quarterbacked Norman back to the playoffs for the first time since 2012. He completed 117 of 234 passes for 1,919 yards, 14 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also rushed for 1,009 yards and 11 TDs, averaging 8.9 yards per carry.

CHA’s Curtis honored by Gatorade

For the second straight year, Christian Heritage Academy volleyball star Olivia Curtis was named the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year.

Curtis, an OU signee, recorded a state-record 711 kills, and posted a kill percentage of .381, and also compiled 478 digs this past season, leading the Crusaders (34-5) to the Class 4A state championship match.

Curtis also tallied 34 service aces and 26 blocks.

A three-time All-City selection by The Oklahoman, Curtis concluded her career with 2,012 kills and 1,735 digs.

“Olivia was the most dominant player that we played against this year,” Tulsa Victory Christian coach Dan Donohue said in a release. “Her leadership on the court and her ability to earn a point from anywhere on the court were the two things that made her so dangerous.”
