Tuesday night roundups

- Jacob Unruh

After a busy week of tournament play last week, high school boys’ and girls’ teams returned to regular season action on Tuesday night.

As the basketball hit the front of the rim and popped into the air to gently touch the center of the backboard, Christian Heritage star point guard Rylee Langerman had one prayer. “Please, Lord, let it go in,” Langerman thought.

Just before the final buzzer, the basketball slid off the backboard and through the net. Langerman saved CHA in the biggest moment.

The sixth-ranked Crusaders beat No. 4 Jones 46-44 in dramatic fashion Tuesday night, thriving in chaos as time expired.

“I try to embrace whatever situation I’m in, whether it’s a set play or letting yourself go with the flow,” Langerman said. “I tried not to let myself think the game is over.”

Jones (11-1) had rallied from an 11-point deficit,

tying the game on a 3-pointer from Caley Young with 15 seconds remaining.

CHA (9-4) was out of timeouts.

Olivia Curtis raced down the court and kicked to

Lexie Davis in the corner. Davis’ 3 was off, though. Curtis still secured the rebound and before stepping out of bounds delivered a strike to Langerman on the left elbow. Langerman’s shot was just short, but strong enough to roll in.

“Just a little elbow shot,” Langerman said. “Nothing crazy.”

Langerman, a junior committed to Arkansas, finished with 11 points, four rebounds, four steals and four assists.

Young led Jones with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Mack Lynn also scored 11.

Stat line of the night

Curtis’ game-saving rebound was arguably her biggest play of the night, but she did so much more on the stat sheet hours after being named the state’s Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year for a second straight year.

Curtis scored 20 points to go along with 17 rebounds, five steals and two assists.

Scoring leader

Putnam North junior Bria

Sanders-Woods delivered the most points of the night locally and joined the 40-point club.

She scored 40 in a 66-57 win over the OKC Storm, giving the Panthers five wins in their last seven games.

30-point outburst

No. 9 Edmond Santa Fe returned to the win column behind an offensive outburst from Kryslyn Jones, who recently committed to Seminole State.

She scored 30 in a 56-43 win over Southmoore.

Game-changing run

Douglass started off cold from the field against John Marshall. Senior guard Caleigh Stevenson lit a fire.

After missing its first eight shots, Douglass went on a 30-4 run before halftime to break things wide open for the Trojans as they beat John Marshall 55-33.

In that run, Stevenson scored 17 of her teams 32 first-half points, and went on to score 23 points total.
