Elliott steps up on senior night for NW Classen
stood at midcourt with his parents and next to his fellow senior teammates, honored before senior night at Northwest Classen.
After being homeschooled for his first three years of high school, Elliot says he's still getting used to the pomp and circumstance of high school life.
But high school basketball, that's still clicking.
Elliot scored a team-high 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Class 5A No. 3-ranked Northwest Classen blew past Class 4A No. 3 John Marshall 82-66 on Friday night.
“I wanted to come to Northwest because I thought I had a better chance of getting college looks and playing with a really good team," Elliott said. "I love it here.”
Elliott, who played in a homeschool basketball league before this season, is just part of the reason why Northwest Classen (16-5) looks poised to make it back to the Class 5A state tournament, says coach Jason Jack.
The Knights are a balanced unit, led by senior Da’Lin Wiggins and junior Davion Warden.
Warden scored 21 points against John Marshall and grabbed 12 rebounds. Wiggins scored 12 points.
Sophomore Maven Moore finished with 15 points while also recording three steals and a block.
John Marshall was led by
Davion Knight, who scored 19 points and knocked home five 3-pointers.
Millwood survives upstart Classen SAS
Millwood coach Mike Jeffries was warned it wasn't so easy to beat Classen SAS anymore, so he entered Friday a little nervous.
And for good reason. Class 3A No. 2 Millwood had to squeak out a tough 67-61 victory to hand Classen SAS its first home loss of the season.
“Classen's gotten way better,” Jeffries said. “I was thinking we usually handle
them pretty well. They're playing pretty good.”
Classen SAS (10-13) led multiple times, including late in the third quarter on a 3-pointer from Campbell
Walker Fields, but the Falcons closed too strong around their big three.
Justin Wilson scored a gamehigh 19 points. Myles Jeffries hit a 3 at the buzzer to end the third with a 41-34 lead.
Isaiah Williams closed out the game with 10 fourth-quarter points, eight of which came on free throws.
Millwood (19-3) has won four of five, getting big tests in four straight.
“When you're used to beating them by 30 points, you have that mindset you're going to come in and wear them out,” Mike Jeffries said. “They're a lot better.”
Ben Patrick led Classen SAS with 18 points, including four 3-pointers.
