Author inspires students with message of `healing hope'

- Staff reports

SHAWNEE — Author and ministry leader Katherine Wolf recently shared her remarkable story of suffering from a brainstem stroke at age 26 shortly after having her first child. Wolf, co-author of the book “Hope Heals,” told students at Oklahoma Baptist University how God has used that experience to bring hope and healing to her life. “We all have brokenness. So, we're all kind of on an equal playing field here,” she said. “You've probably had some stuff. You've probably been through some hard things or you're going to go through some hard things.” Wolf spoke to students and faculty gathered in Raley Chapel on Wednesday for Woman's Mission and Ministry Day. She referenced John 16:33, noting that in the world believers will have trouble of all kinds, but that despite that, they can take heart because Jesus has overcome the world. Wolf and her husband, Jay, are survivors, storytellers, advocates and evangelists. In 2008, Katherine nearly died from a catastrophic brainstem stroke. The Wolfs are in full-time ministry together through Hope Heals, using their story to encourage those with broken bodies, broken brains and broken hearts. Engaging both faithbased and secular communities, the couple seek to bridge the gap between those disabled on the outside and those disabled on the inside with the hope that Jesus brings healing to the deepest pains people carry. They co-authored their first book “Hope Heals,” which was published by Zondervan in 2016, and launched Hope Heals Camp, a summer camp for families with disabilities in 2017. They currently live in Los Angeles with their two sons, James and John.
