Wieters earns backup job to Cardinals' Molina

Matt Wieters has been added to the St. Louis Cardinals' roster after earning the backup job behind catcher Yadier Molina.

Wieters' contract was selected Friday from Triple- A Memphis. He gets a $1.5 million salary while in the major leagues and $ 200,000 while in the minors. He can earn $500,000 in performanc­e bonuses based on games: $100,000 each for 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80.

To clear a roster spot, the Cardinals designated left-hander Chasen Shreve for assignment.

A four- time All- Star with Baltimore from 2009- 16, Wieters was competing with Francisco Pena for the backup job.

Casey shares lead at Valspar Championsh­ip

Paul Casey managed all the par 5s and shot a 5-under 66 on Friday to share the lead in his bid to become the first back- to- back winner of the Valspar Championsh­ip.

Casey holed a 30-foot eagle putt on the 599yard fifth hole and had short birdie putts on the other par 5s at Innisbrook in Palm Harbor, Florida. He went bunker-to-bunker on his last hole for a bogey and dropped into a tie for the lead with Austin

Cook (67).

They were at 6-under 136.

White Sox finalize 6-year deal with elite prospect

Jimenez and the Chicago White Sox have finalized a $ 43 million, six- year contract, a deal nearly double the amount of the previous high for a player under club control yet to make his major league debut.

The agreement announced Friday includes team options for 2025 and 2026 that if exercised would raise the total to $75 million over eight years.

• Mike Trout wrapped up an eventful spring in Arizona on Friday with his third home run, and first since signing his record new deal.

Trout received a 12-year, $426.5 million contract Wednesday, and in two games since, he's 2- for- 7, hitting an RBI single Thursday and the three-run homer Friday as the Los Angeles Angels hosted the Chicago White Sox. In 14 games in Arizona, he batted .293.

• The Oakland Raiders have signed unrestrict­ed free agent quarterbac­k Mike Glennon and safety Curtis Riley.

The additions on Friday give the Raiders a second backup to Derek Carr along with Nathan Peterman and depth in the secondary.
