COLLEGE SOFTBALL ROUNDUP OU beats Texas Tech 5-1 in Big 12 opener

Second-ranked Oklahoma defeated Texas Tech 5-1 in its Big 12 opener Friday at Rocky Johnson Field in Lubbock, Texas.

Giselle Juarez had a solid start for the Sooners, and improved to 12-0 on the season. The Arizona State transfer held the Red Raiders (27-3) to one run on three hits and struck out six in 5 2/3 innings before handing the ball to Shannon

Saile, who didn't allow a hit as she closed the final 1 1/3 innings.

OU's Falepolima Aviu finished with two hits, including a two- run homer in the fourth. Nicole

Mendes also had two hits and two RBIs.

With the win, the Sooners (27-2) set a program record with 26 straight Big 12 regular-season victories dating back to 2017.

The series continues Saturday with a matchup in Lubbock. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.

OSU throttles Baylor 21-2

A historic offensive performanc­e propelled No. 21-ranked Oklahoma State to a 21-2 run-rule victory over Baylor on Friday in Waco, Texas.

The Cowgirls ( 22- 8) finished with 15 hits and tied a program record in

runs scored.

Samantha Show earned the win after allowing just four hits in four innings of two-run ball against the Bears (13-13). The senior improved to 9- 3 on the season.

A pair of Oklahoma natives led the Cowgirls at the plate. Former Broken Bow star Michaela Richbourg went 3 for 3 with one home run and four RBIs, and Sand Springs alum Sydney

Pennington had a home run, one double and five RBIs.

Game two of the series is scheduled to begin a 1 p.m. Saturday in Waco.
