EDMOND Elevated water tower wins recognition

Freese and Nichols of Oklahoma City has earned a National Recognition Award for exemplary engineering achievement in the American Council of Engineering Companies' 52nd annual Engineering Excellence Awards for designing an elevated water tower to serve Edmond.

The new 2-million-gallon elevated storage tower at 4116 N Boulevard more than doubles the city's elevated water storage capacity. Constructed of lightweight, high-strength composite materials, the tower was strategically located at the site of an existing pump station where its water can be drained into an existing ground storage tank when flushing is required for maintenance.

Other features include an advanced monitoring and control system, specialized valves that can be operated remotely, and a structural design to help the tank structure withstand the forces of tornadoes and earthquakes. Officials said the additional storage capacity will support Edmond's economic development efforts for years to come.
