THE OKLAHOMAN'S HIGH SCHOOL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
BASEBALL Kale Davis, Westmoore
An Oklahoma State signee, Kale Davis had a big week as Westmoore clinched the District 6A-2 championship and then won the Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference title. Davis first hit a big tworun homer in Monday's win over Norman. Then he fired six dominant innings in Tuesday's rout of Norman, allowing one run on four walks and three hits while striking out six. He also drove in three runs during the COAC Tournament, including two in the 7-5 win over Stillwater for the title.
BOYS GOLF Jaxon Dowell, Oklahoma Christian School
An Oklahoma commitment who was The Oklahoman's Golfer of the Year last spring, Dowell was dominant in last week's Edmond North Invitational at Lincoln Park West. He opened with a 1-under 70, but then cut eight strokes in the final round to reach 9-under 62 and win the tournament. OCS also tied for first with Stillwater as a team, but finished second after a scorecard playoff.
BOYS SOCCER Tate Tettleton, Norman North
Tate Tettleton stepped up when Norman North needed him the most. He netted a hat trick to help the Timberwolves defeat Mustang 3-2 on Friday and clinch District 6A-2. Norman North needed a win against the Broncos, who had not lost a district game before the matchup.
GIRLS GOLF Lilly Whitley, Edmond Memorial
A sophomore looking to build off a big rookie season, Lilly Whitley is getting better at the right time with state a week away. Whitley won two tournaments last week, shooting a 73 at Lincoln Park West to win Putnam North's tournament and then tying for first with Bartlesville's Emma Shelley in the Class 6A East-West preview at Earlywine Park. Whitley had been battling an illness, missing the regional tournament preview.
GIRLS SOCCER Jasmine Morales, Santa Fe South
Jasmine Morales was pivotal in helping Santa Fe South clinch a District 5A-2 title last week. She played three positions in a 2-1 victory against Piedmont on Tuesday. On Thursday, she netted a game-winner against Lawton MacArthur in a 3-2 decision. Then Friday, Morales was again all over the field during a 2-1 overtime victory at Duncan. Although she scored only two goals, coach Chris LeVere said her versatility helped the Saints win three games in four nights.
SLOWPITCH SOFTBALL Jaycee Kievit, Southmoore
Southmoore is entering the playoffs with a ton of momentum and a city championship. The thirdranked Saber-Cats beat rivals Westmoore and Moore last week in comefrom-behind fashion, with Jaycee Kievit providing some drama. The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma signee hit a walk-off, two-run homer in extra innings to beat More 14-13. For the week, she was 8 for 10 with two doubles, the homer and seven RBI.
BOYS TENNIS Mert Arabaci, Stillwater
Mert Arabaci might be Stillwater's best-kept secret. Arabaci hasn't lost a set this season, is 22-0 and captured the No. 1 singles title at the Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday, besting Edmond North's Brogan McLaughlin 6-1, 6-4 to win the final. Turkey's top-ranked U-16 player is in Stillwater while his father is performing research as a visiting scholar at Oklahoma State. Stillwater coach Leslie Roark said special doesn't describe Arabaci.
GIRLS TENNIS Jenna Noel, Westmoore
Jenna Noel was primed to have a stellar senior season, and she's finding her groove as the state tournament nears. Noel captured the No. 1 singles title in the Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday, knocking off Deer Creek's Addison Miller in the final.
BOYS TRACK Romeo Ingram, Putnam West
It took a while for Romeo Ingram to come down from his jump. During the John Jacobs Invitational on Friday in Norman, Ingram leaped to victory in the long jump with a 22-feet, 4.5-inch attempt. He bested Del City's Jeff Foreman by 6 inches.
GIRLS TRACK Madison Collier, Hennessey
It doesn't matter the competition; Madison Collier has dominated it. The sophomore from Hennessey again stood out among her competitors in the discus, winning the competition at the John Jacobs Invitational with a throw of 145-1. Her closest competition was 25-feet behind. She also won the shot put with a throw of 42-4.75. Her discus throw is the best in the state this year with shot being the third-best thrown this season.
