Edmond police shooting inquiry sent to DA
EDMOND — A civil rights a t t or ney r e pr e s e nt i ng t he family of an Edmond teenager who was fatally shot by police l ast month said t he f amily plans to hold a news conference next week.
Isaiah Lewis, 17, was shot and killed April 29 after police said he broke into a home and assaulted officers who had followed him inside. Use of a Taser didn't stop him, police said. He was reportedly naked and unarmed.

The officers involved in the shooting, Sgt. Milo Box and of f i c e r Denton Scherman, were put on administrative assignment pending the outcome of an investigation into the shooting.
The medical e x a miner ' s offi ce r eported t hat Lewis died from multiple gunshot wounds. Police haven't said how many times he was shot or whether one or both officers shot Lewis. Last week, Lewis' parents sent a letter to Edmond's mayor, police c h i e f a n d c i t y m a n a g e r requesting a meeting to discuss what happened to their son. The city manager and police chief wrote back saying t hey would not meet with the family, noting that the family had retained an attorney and citing concerns that a meeting "might i nterfere in the investigations." They instructed Lewis' parents that any future communications should be between the family's attorney and the city's attorney.
Dozens of people who were o u t r a g e d b y t h e s h o o t i n g marched through Edmond in protest earlier this month, and the executive director of Black Lives Matter OKC called for the officers involved to be held "fully accountable for their actions."

P r i o r t o t h e s h o o t i n g , Edmond police were notified of a domestic di s t urbance after two girls said they had been assaulted by a boy and n e e d e d h e l p . L e wi s ' g i r l - friend told police that Lewis had "f l i pped out" and was acting strange after arriving at her house, police reported. Police were then notified that Lewis was spotted by several witnesses running west on Lariat Circle and stripping his clothes.
Officers later located Lewis, who they said was hopping f e nces a nd r unning naked through a backyard. They saw him break into a home and followed him inside, police said.
