Police ID officers in I-35 shooting
The names of two police officers who shot and killed an Interstate 35 gunman Monday in northeast Oklahoma City have been released.
The name of the gunman had not been released as of Tuesday afternoon.
Police Sgt. Wesley Parsons and Sgt. Dustin Fulton responded to reports of a man firing at vehicles and pointing the gun, and they confronted him along I-35 near NE 10 about 10:25 a.m. Monday, police reported.
Them an, who witnesses said fired a gun that hit a number of vehicles, dropped the gun when officers arrived, but picked it back up and was shot by the officers.
The man was dead at the scene, police reported. The I-35 northbound and southbound lanes were shutdown for hours Monday before the interstate was cleared for traffic.
Parsons has been a police officer 12 years and Fulton eight years, police reported.
Both officers are on paid, administrative leave pending an outcome of the investigation.
