A felon accused of punching a police officer is facing an assault and battery charge, court records show.

Ricky Deshawn Montgomery ,35, was charged Monday in Oklahoma County District Court with assault and battery upon a police officer, a felony.

Montgomery is accused of punching Oklahoma City Police Sgt. Jonathan Beasley about 6 p.m. May 30 near the intersection of NW 82 and Council Road, according to a court affidavit.

Beasley tried to question Montgomery, who matched the description of a man who had exposed himself to children, police reported in the affidavit.

"When Sgt. Beasley approached Ricky to talk, Sgt. Beasley stated Rickey cursed at him and began walking away," an officer reported. "Sgt. Beasley advised me he attempted to stop Ricky and Ricky turned around and punched Sgt. Beasley on his left cheek with a closed fist, then ran away."

Beasley required several stitches to close the wound, the officer reported.

Montgomery has previous convictions for driving under the influence and robbery with a firearm, court records show. He remained in the Oklahoma County jail on Tuesday in lieu of $4,000 bail.
