PAUL GEORGE HAS SURGERY
Thunder forward Paul George underwent successful left labrum surgery Tuesday, the team announced
Thunder All-Star Paul George underwent successful left labrum surgery Tuesday, according to a Thunder spokesperson.
The Thunder originally announced the impending surgery on the small tear when George underwent right rotator cuff surgery a month ago. His timeline for return remains the same. He will be sidelined for the summer, and the team will update his return to play status before the upcoming season.
George established himself as a strong MVP candidate this season before sitting out for three games due to right shoulder soreness at the end of February and beginning of March. He played with kinesiology tape on both shoulders for the majority of the last two months of the Thunder's season. George finished the season averaging a careerhigh 28 points, 8.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.2 steals.
Much at stake in last NBA Finals trip to Oracle
The NBA Finals are making one last trip to Oracle Arena.
For the Toronto Raptors, it's a second shot at a first championship.
For the Golden State Warriors, it'll be a night to play for a fallen teammate and the fans they're leaving behind.
Game 6 is Thursday and the stakes could hardly be higher.
"We owe our fans one more game in Oracle," Warriors guard Klay Thompson said.
Toronto will bring a 3-2 lead into the building and try again to win a title that seemed so close in Game 5. The Raptors had a six-point lead with less than 3 minutes remaining Monday, poised to put an end to a Golden era in the NBA. Then Thompson and Stephen Curry rallied Golden State to a 106-105 victory, fueled by three straight 3-pointers.
It's the last game in the arena before the Warriors move to the new Chase Center in San Francisco, and the first one for Golden State with the knowledge that Kevin Durant won't be back this season. The two-time defending champions began the series hoping he could return from a strained right calf, but not long after he did he was lost in the second quarter of Game 5 with an Achilles tendon injury.
Grizzlies hire Bucks assistant as head coach
The Memphis Grizzlies finally filled their coaching vacancy by hiring Milwaukee Bucks assistant Taylor Jenkins.
The Grizzlies will introduce Jenkins at news conference on Wednesday. Memphis became the sixth and final NBA team to hire a new coach after firing J.B. Bickerstaff following the end of the season in April.
