Moore man arrested in Texas

ROANOKE, Texas — A 21-year-old man who police say has a history of mental illness and is accused of stabbing his father to death was arrested early Wednesday in Texas.

Just after 12:10 a.m. Wednesday, officers with the Roanoke Police Department were di s - patched on a suspicious person call at a store. At the scene, officers made contact with Jacob Allan Barber, who they said was sleeping on his backpack up against one of the store's walls.

Barber reportedly told officers he was traveling from Oklahoma. A search of his name through the National Crime Information Center database showed an active warrant issued from Cleveland County for his arrest in the slaying of his father, Glenn Allen Barber, 48, police said.

Moore police said Glenn Barber was found dead Sunday at his home in the 200 block of N Morgan Road. A family member found his body inside the home after he did not show up for church Sunday morning, Moore police officials reported.

The state medical examiner's office ruled Glenn Barber's death a homicide and listed the cause of death as "multiple stab wounds."

Investigators also reported that Glenn Barber's vehicle was missing from the home, but there were no signs of forced entry and nothing else appeared to have been taken.

Jacob Barber and his father “argued daily and had a volatile relationship,” investigators reported. Jacob Barber was also reported to have been to “several mental institutions” but refused to take his medication, according to the affidavit.
